Historical weddings

James has been a living history practitioner for more than 35 years bringing the Medieval, Tudor, Victorian and Second World War eras to life.

Many of his friends have chosen to have historically themed weddings - often including traditional rituals - and sharing their passion for re-enactment with their family and friends.

Traditional rituals include:

  • Handfasting
  • Jumping the broom
  • Oath stone vows
  • Jumping over fire
  • Breaking a pot

Creating the perfect historical wedding for you

Whether you are a living history practitioner or simply like the idea of a costumed wedding, James will work with you to explore the traditional rituals which would reflect your theme.

As a civil celebrant, James is also able to lead a ceremony at any location of your choice.  The venue does not need to be on the 'approved premises' list for civil marriages.  This broadens the choice of wedding venues you could use for your ceremony.

As with with all celebrant led weddings, you would just need to complete the formal marriage paperwork at a register office, normally ahead of your ceremony.
