Naming ceremonies

Looking to introduce a new family member?

A naming ceremony is a beautiful way to celebrate the birth of a new baby or to welcome an adopted child or step-children into your family and your friendship group.

Many families choose to hold a non-religious naming ceremony to celebrate their child’s arrival, but there is no age limit so older children can be recognised as well.

This can be a wonderful way to mark an adoption or to welcome step children to a family.

The ceremony has no legal standing but it is an opportunity to make a public commitment of your love and support for your child.

You have the opportunity to select Guide Parents support the child into the future.

Marking other significant milestones

Naming ceremonies are not restricted to new babies. They can be used to celebrates a range of life events including Adoptions and Gender Transitions.

It can be incredibly affirming for an adopted child to be welcomed formally into a family, and they can help to create the ceremony, including music and words which they like.

Gender reassignment is such an important stage in the transition for the individual to become the person they want to be.  To declare your new name amongst family and friends provides a huge boost for self-esteem and confidence.
